Serbian Youth Baseball is Underway

The Serbian youth baseball programs have been at it despite the inclement weather Serbia has faced in the last couple of months. The U-15 PONY team traveled to Prague, Czech Republic where they had one of the best results in Serbian youth baseball history going 3-2 in the tournament and placing in the top 10. The tournament was a nice experience for many of the players who hadn’t yet participated in the international forum that the youth programs generally participate in. Being able to play on beautiful baseball fields against strong opponents was really a great way to start the season.

Following the Prague PONY tournament, Little League quickly began with a tournament at the field of FK Fruškogorac near Novi Sad, Serbia. Four teams from different towns in Serbia were present at the tournament: Novi Sad, Belgrade, Zrenjanin, and Ripanj. The Wildcats from Ripanj are in a transfer stage, attempting to begin a baseball/softball club as they have only had softball in the past couple of years. Nikola Vučević, head of Little League Serbia, had the voluntary help of his PONY league team from Novi Sad to assist in organizing and officiating the tournament. In the Saturday event there were 10 games played in total in a mixed time/inning format. Novi Sad ended up winning the tournament edging out the Wildcats from Ripanj.
